Talking changes is a self-help, counselling and talking therapies service designed to help anyone living in the County Durham and Darlington area to deal with common mental health problems such as stress, anxiety or depression, as well as panic phobias obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post traumatic stress disorder.

Step one counselling is a wellbeing intervention which is led by you. Counsellors will build a supportive and non-judgemental relationship with you based on empathy and honesty. The counselling room is a safe and supportive environment for you to explore what is bothering you in order to support you to feel better, make sense of your circumstances and experiences, and find ways to achieve a greater degree of choice and purpose in the world. Step one counselling is offered up to 6 sessions, in which you and your counsellor work together to set the agenda and pace of the counselling and work towards a therapeutic aim.

Counselling at step one is suitable for:

  • People experiencing feelings of low mood
  • People who can explain what is bothering them
