Mindfulness in Practice
As we have seen in this module, mindfulness must be practiced daily, to hone your abilities to use it in the moment. It can be used at any time, for even just a few moments. And you can do it anywhere, as long as you are safe.
It’s important to remember there is no right and wrong in mindfulness, it’s all about you and your recovery. If you slip into an old pattern, find yourself with negative thoughts or forget to practice for a day or two, simply acknowledge it and carry on.
While these core skills can be used in the moment when we need to pause and adjust our behaviours, they are useful tools to be used in our recovery process. By being mindful of our emotions and behaviours, we begin to recognise our triggers and adapt accordingly, we can begin to replace negative behaviours with positive ones, we can begin to heal without even realising we are doing it.
Mindfulness can be difficult to begin with, but I promise you it’s worth it in the end. 1
